The prohibition of idolatry, as well as the prohibition of murder and incest, must not be transgressed even under threat of death. It is forbidden to acknowledge anyone or anything as a deity (even if God is not rejected).
Expressions of recognition as a deity include:
Serving the deity as God is served (sacrifices, libations, incense, and worship).
Other acts expressing love are also prohibited, such as kissing or praying to an idol.
